Hunting / fishing cooler

I am in the market for one of those high end coolers. Big enough to hold my de-boned Bear meat & a limit of Steal head or walleye. Last year during our bear hunt I think we spent close to $50.00 on ice because it was really warm & really had to stay on top of it so the meat didn't get soaked in water. I don't mind spending $ on one that will do the job.

Let's hear your recommendations. I will be in the states this weekend (Michigan) & will check out what the outdoor stores have to offer over there.

Look at the Yeti coolers. Very expensive but they are supposed to be the best.

Cabelas Alaskan Guide, Yeti, Pelican and I believe Yukon even makes a high end cooler. I have been looking around also :)

I have a few cheap(er) igloo coolers. Last summer I filled them with fish caught in Virginia Beach, topped with a few inches of ice, sealed the lid with gorilla tape and wrapped the coolers in a blanket for the drive home in 30 degree heat. Two days later I opened the coolers and the ice was about 50% melted, enough left to keep the fish cool and we never lost any meat.

The trick is don't open the coolers and they will work fine.

Dry ice

Another option for something like that is an apartment freezer on the tongue of the trailer or in the back of the truck. Hook it up at night when you are running the generator for your camp activities and it will hold through the day if you have it in the shade.

I know people talk about the high end coolers but unless it is never opened and have really thick walls I do not believe many of the claims.

I always swore i would never spend huge money on a cooler then my GF got me the yeti tundra 65 for christmas. NEVER again will i buy a cheap cooler these are amazing. i went to quebec for spring bear this year i pre cooled the cooler.( this makes a huge difference if you put a bag of ice in 24 hours before your food goes in) I left on a friday night and was gone for almost 8 days. i had one block of ice and one bag of ice to start. when i returned home i still had a quarter of a bag of cubed ice and the block was more that half left. i swear by the yeti i have been using it all summer and it continues to impress me. i was opening the cooler 3 to 4 times a day as well. buy the yeti you will not regret it.
