Savage 10ML ii range day
Got in some range time before my Dec Michigan M/L hunt.
Best 100 yard groups with.
.300gr Hornady xtp
Harvester sabot. 50cal / .45cal bullet.
44gr 5744 powder.
These sabots are easy loading and my groups shrank considerably. I was worried that they were too easy to load. I was wrong.... :)
The MMP high pressure sabots for these bullets were next to impossible to load without 2 hands and tons of force. my thinking is hard loading may have been deforming the sabots or bullets....

Nice! I'm thinking there's some variance from barrel to barrel. My MMP's offer a little bit of resistance but not too bad..... on my dad's rifle they are tighter than a....... well you get the idea.... Both of our rifles shoot very tight groups at 100 yds. We use 250gr XTP's and 42 grains of 4759,

I was always told tighter= better groups. Not so much with my gun..

With smokeless you need just enough resistance to enable the powder to ignite ( it needs to be under pressure to fire) too loose of a fit and misfires will occur.
In my savage I was able to use .457 dia bullets in the short black harvester sabots they were somewhat tight, I wasn't able to load them in the mmp sabots they were used primarily with the standard .451/2 dia. bullets and accuracy was excellent.
The trick is to find the right combination for your particular rifle.
Glad you found something that works for you.

Got my savage dialed in the hornady 300gr. hollowpoints last week for the early muzzleloader hunt in 82b. Didn't get out hunting much and saw no deer. Realised I was down to three bullets so went out today to shoot some 325ftxs. The shot on the right was first on a simple in and out bore mop from the muzzle end. Then shot 4 more letting the barrel cool in between. 43 grains 5744, orange mmp sabot and cci lr mag primer (lr primer breech plug). Looks like a winner to me! The pic should be rotated right 90 degrees.Attachment 33940
