Joined the PC club 5-6 years ago ( time flies). Started with radiation in Kingston one summer. First holiday in many years, great time. Psa numbers dropped to zip. Spent 2014-15 limping around waiting for hip replacement, during which time PSA started to show up again due to the cancer metastizing.
Started the three month hormone shots which worked for a while but finally they brought in another oncologist who started me on Zytiga chemo pills last summer. These are the ones with the $5000 list price. Druggist would smile when I paid the $4.11 each time.....
During this time I was warned not to lift more than 10lbs as I had one spot on my spine that had been attacked (as well as a few other spots). I found that I could recharge my trolling motor battery while it sat in my boat and pretty well quit using my 8hp but other than feeling tired and a bit of back pain my life carried on as normal with the help of some Tylenol and a few opiates on occasion.
A week ago we made another trip to Kingston and they suggested that I start liquid chemo but not until after New Years as the side effects will put me down for three months or so. I would be getting a shot every three weeks but I could go to Peterborough ( one hour instead of three) to do this.
Each time I have started a new treatment I have been warned about the side effects but so far the only result has been fatique and some weakness. My hip and leg pain have caused more problems than the bone spots( well except for lifting bags of chicken and dog food).
Just don't know what to expect this spring as we want to soon start ice fishing...Have given up on maple syrup for other reasons.....
Be sure to have some decent pain killers--stronger than advil or tylenol.
Taxanes are notorious for causing body wide, deep, aching bone and muscle pains as a temporary side effect.
Sorry to hear you're fighting such a tough battle. Although you and I have never met, I feel I know you from sharing this forum. That being said, I have you pictured, as a very strong person, who pushes through, what ever obstacles life throws at you. I know cemo can't be fun and it sucks. For what it's worth, the ice will be sh..ty this year, so you can spend more time on the board:fish:. I don't know anything about your drug, but I'm thinking about you, and wish you a full and speedy recovery. Happy holidays Pat.
