The CCFR's video here is strikingly dishonest. Several points jump out:
- The RCMP is not making law.
- Interpreting the law and determining when to make arrests is a normal exercise of police power.
- The RCMP has published a rationale for their decision. The CCFR doesn't address it, and instead calls the decision "arbitrary," which by definition it is not.
- The RCMP did not instruct its officers to arrest otherwise law-abiding people in possession of these mags.
I like Rod Giltaca and I think the intent of the CCFR is generally good, but the gun community is not well served by having its own lobby groups feed it misinformation. And it does not help the CCFR's more general aim, to make a case to the general public and win support, if the CCFR insists on publishing information that anyone who looks to the primary source can see is dishonest.
