Afternoon gents, just wondering if anyone has seen or hunted coyotes in Marlborough forest. I was out rabbit hunting last weekend at E7 and saw various paw prints but they very well could have been a dog out for a walk with its owner. I wouldn't mind planning a coyote hunt to help out the deer/rabbit population in the area. A guy I work with said he knows someone who will take the pelts, granted I only have a .270 to hunt with so the pelt may not be in the greatest condition. ;)
There are plenty of coyotes there. I have not actually seen one there with my own eyes, but several times while deer hunting I could hear them howling, sometimes very close by.
If you are wanting the pelt, they are well past the prime condition now. They are not likely worth much.Quote:

With regards to the hunting, I don't believe all of us hunting will reduce numbers. It takes an awful lot of kills. When speaking with a guy that uses dogs. He finds the harder he hits them. The more he sees the next year. Either way, hunting them is fun. Everything about it is enjoyable. I think your 270 is fine. If I were you, I'd aim for the neck. Least amount of pelt damage. Just the way that it gets skinned. As for The forest. They are everywhere around Ottawa. Overrun with them. They can get use to fake callers and it may be harder to get them to come in. In a populated area like the m forest. Good luck.

Hides aren't great this time of the year but aren't worthless, I'm still getting around 10$ a hide from ones shot this time last year.
I got 50$ for a nice pale 2xl pelt shot late February last year. I'd still skin them unless I see rub marks around neck or back

where do you sell your hides to? local trapper? as for .270, chances are it will go through clean but aim for neck if you can.
I was told by a co-worker of someone who buys them, but i'm not a licensed trapper so I can't sell the hides. If I get some and they are in good shape then I will donate them to someone who can tan them.Quote:
