I recently took possesion of a 117 acre parcel in the Restoule area. The property is mixed hardwood with about 10 acres of beaver pond. There is also about 1 acre open around the cottage/shop down at the lake.
Looking for honest/fair forester names in the North Bay/Huntsville area to put together a management plan. Thank you.
Not sure how much you know about trees and forestry, but if you have a vision of what you want your lot to look like in 10 or 20 years, you can do your own plan. You only need the forester to approve your plan after that - I did my own and having a forester visit and approve it cost about $250.
What is the goal of your plan - start with that - one sentence and work from there.

I assume that you will register the plan, once it is completed. I've had a registered forest management plan for over 12 years (they have to be renewed every 10 years) and the amount saved on property taxes is very significant. The forester will make recommendations in their plan but you are under no obligation to do anything very complicated. All you need to do is keep track of what you do and every year I just make a note of what has been done.
We have 100 acres near Restoule as well. Nice area, and at least where we are plenty of deer and bear. Cant help with your question though.
Thanks for the tips. Purpose is threefold. Reduce the $3200 tax bill, improve the deer and upland habitat, and provide quality firewood for my primary residence and the cottage.
Writing your own plan sounds like a great idea. I will be looking into that option.
The tax reduction is supposed to be 75% - but it seems like more than that. Just got my interim tax bill for 2017 - 150 acres in the Pembroke area - about 65 bucks.
They provide a pretty thorough template for it. Just follow that.Quote:
