Could have been handled better!

Hard to tell,not being there. Cow Moose protect their calves to the death,either,yours or theirs. There may have been a better way,but,we don't know if it was available at the time.

So the moose are in a park near a busy intersection. CO's start to move toward the moose to try to get them out before they wander into traffic. Cow moose shows it is willing to run off a group of humans to protect her calves rather than walk away from them. Officers shoot the moose in self defense because they are facing down a 900lb animal. People are angry because the CO's shot the moose. What is the alternative to trying to move the moose? Allowing the moose to stay in the park near the busy intersection and run the risk of them going into traffic? How badly would the CO's have been criticized then? I wonder if the situation were reversed (the bystanders in the CO's shoes), if the bystanders would have the same opinion. While the shooting is unfortunate, do any of these bystanders have an alternative plan that doesn't involve leaving the moose in the park?

Begs the question , if the calves were "immobilized," why not the cow ? As far as being "unpredictable", I don't think there was anything unpredictable about the cow's response to protect her calves. But as Trimmer said, I wasn't there so it's hard to judge!!

Good question. Could be something as simple as the claves were tranqed and down, the CO's were trying to get a shot at the cow and the cow charged them. I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the guys whose job it is to protect and enforce wildlife law rather than a bystander who isn't.

Its unfortunate but you also can't risk them running into traffic.
