WHAT shots does he need besides rabies 30 days ahead of crossing border
That's all you need....a 'proof of shot' document from the vet and you're good to go.
I'll add...I've been crossing with my dogs for years now to the vets in NY state and have never once been asked to show that paper work going down and only once coming back....seems like a non issue at the border.
edit add: my wive just mention what she gets a signed "Health Certificate' from the vet that shows all the up to date basic vaccinations, including rabies. Covers all bases.
Really depends on the border guard. I brought a dog over the border just a month ago and showed documentation on all vaccinations. I asked the border guard ,is it only the rabies vaccination you want all pets crossing over into the U.S to have ? His reply was that they (border guards) can ask to see the other vaccination certificates as well. He wasn't overly friendly and didn't want to push my luck with another question asking if he would refuse my dogs entry into the U.S if her other vaccinations were up to date. I have been crossing for many years with dogs and have been asked three times to show proof of rabies only..
Never been asked for paperwork. Always been asked about dog food in the bags - no lamb , sheep, goat, meat meal etc..
I haven't been over in a while now,but never had a problem in the past. They can do what ever they want though. I remember one guard talked to me over an hour about hunting. The poor guys behind me. I was planing on taking the buck home before work but ended going right to work. Thank god it was cold that night, other wise I would have been 2 hours late.
I had the same thing happen to me Greenhorn and had a long conversation about game cameras with the border guard. lol It was about 10 minutes but seemed like an hour.
