My brothers have been wanting to get together for a hunt before we are all too old. The initial idea was a Caribou hunt, but with that being shut down, we are looking for a moose hunt in 2018. In talking to Outfitters at the Sportsmen's Show, were told that odd years you could only hunt bulls and even years you could hunt anything.
That said there will be 6 of us, 3 from Ontario and 3 from the US (Virginia).

I think your wrong with your hunt cycle.
We are booked for Quebec this year.
This is the year that you can shoot Bull, Cow or calf.
Next year (2018) is only Bull/ calf

I have fished at Taggart Bay Lodge many times and they have a great business. Their outpost cabin is only about 10 years old and I know they have bear stands behind cabin.Quote:

We've hunted an outfitter for the last two years. You can find an outfitter with the level of service you want pretty easily. (we basically wanted a place to hunt and a roof, which lead us to the outfitter we picked) Success rates are hard to figure out, they are super cagey about telling you true rates (and sometimes fudge numbers i.e. "that guy shot one but didn't kill it so we count that as a kill"). The good outfitters tend to be both pricey and hard to book, so good on you for getting an early start.
I don't know how we ended up picking who we did, but shows and magazines seem to be the primary way they advertise.
2017 is all types (Bull/Cow/Calf) and you need 2 guys to tag the same moose you shoot. A lot of outfitters are more restrictive in their rules, generally limiting to one moose per territory.
