Tick control around your property

THIS IS A NEW IDEA FOR TICK CONTROL ON YOUR PROPERTY

This would be easy to "Make your own" with permethrin spray, some tubes and cotton (shredded balls)

Ticks are BIG trouble—specifically the black-legged tick, commonly known as the “deer tick.” These are the disgusting ticks that carry Lyme Disease, which affects more than 300,000 Americans every year. Lyme Disease can cause everything from fevers and joint pain to full out debilitation. Believe it or not, most folks catch Lyme Disease while working or playing in their own backyards, with 5- to 9-year-old boys at the highest risk.

True. But you need to fence off your garden so they won't eat it.
Guinea hens are apparently best tic killers but and noisy.

thank god I have 30 chickens free ranging over the property then, makes it easier to free range the 9 and 2 year old lol

Unfortunately, due to our dumb CDN. Laws, anything containing permethrin or pyrethrin is very low percentage ie. Ultra Shield available at TSC Stores, permethrin is only 0.50 percent and pyrethrin is 0.10 percent in strength, where as in the U.S. you can buy a quart of permethrin 38.6 percent strength for $22.00 . also check out this Gov. site,

Typical government double speak.

Then the next line goes on to say:

Although permethrin is not available in Canada..................

This really makes a lot of sense ??? typical Gov. double speak.

Many people bring it over the border from the U.S and have been since the ban along with weed & feed for our lawns. Very few border guards will say anything if they discover it while doing a check.

I know a guy that is a retired supervisor from customs. He says customs is only required to enforce federal laws. The lawn herbicides and possible this permethrin ban is only provincial. He says just because you're bringing anything into Ontario does not mean it's going to be used in Ontario. Maybe it's destined to go to Manitoba or somewhere where it's legal.

Our gov't at work! Weird how I personally know people that have been sent back to return "weed and feed" by customs yet others get through! Not all officers are created equal! Sometimes you need to challenge them and ask to see the documentation which prohibits your purchase.

It's been a long time since a CBSA officer has even looked at a receipt and even longer since I had my vehicle searched (only 4 times in over 20 yrs) . I rarely get called asked to come in and pay the HST for the Good and/or Services I have received south of the border.

If you keep your purchases under $200 it's usually "have a good day" ...what I buy is never know to them and they don't seem to care. The only question I'm ever asked, directly, is if I have any firearms, or parts for any firearms...they don't seem to care much about anything else coming across that they want a verbal declaration on.

Really makes me wonder if they are? as in the nymph stage ticks are poppy seed size which is pretty smalland even chickens would have a hard time finding them amongst the debris in a lawn or garden.
