Bear Hunting in Ontario

Hello all. I'm a NY resident and hunter. I've been focusing on deer and bear in my state, though the bear have been pretty tough to come by where I hunt. I've done some research about hunting in Ontario, CA and learned that baiting and hounding is allowed (with restrictions in certain WMU's i think).

I was wondering if anyone here could provide recommendations on good guides to check out for bear hunting, preferably ones that specialized on hound hunts, though I'm potentially open to a baited hunt as well. I posted over in the Sporting dog section, but someone suggested that I should post here as well.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Welcome aboard. You came to right site. Try this website www.ofah.org and go to their "links" page. There's usually lots of outfitters that advertise on the site. If you check out the headers on these pages,there's usually lots of info there,too.

I dont believe there are many outfitters that still run hounds. They are all pretty much baited stands these days.

For the longest time from back in the 70s/80s there was always the Munro clan from Almonte that ran Plott hound bear hunts out here in Lanark for mostly American clients. When Ottawa had a bear issue they would phone Pete Munro. He's long gone now, but the business did continue under the lads. I know they got into baited stands as well. To tell the truth though, I have no idea if they've kept the business still active this long. I kind of doubt it but they might be able to point you somewhere. An easy way to find out would be to phone Munro"s Service Center 613-256-3020. Good luck with your search.
