82A success
Well after yesterday’s windy mess, the deer came out to play today. Legal light came and it was wonderfully wind free and frosty. Most puddles were ice covered on my walk in to my watch. As I walked slowly to my stand, which is about a km walk, I noticed a doe feeding on apples. Unfortunately for me, she heard me but was unsure of what I was, so she stomped and trotted away wagging her tail. A short 10 minutes later as I’m making my way through the bush, movement catches my eye. Out of some tall grass stands a small buck at about 30 yards. He’s unsure of me and we are having a stare down. After about a minute (but feels like forever) he turns his head which allows me to shoulder my Winchester 94. I was able to put one right through the vitals. He never even flinched. I thought I missed so I chambered another round and...he just fell over. I gave it 10 minutes then went in to pull him out and tag him. It’s great to have some venison for the freezer. On the drag out I came across that doe again eating more apples. Thanks to a friend for lending me his game cart, I saved my back. I just might buy my own lol.
