I was lucky to harvest a nice doe this controlled hunt.My family wants to do a rug-hair on,from the hide.
Do you guys know someone who may do this kind of work?I salted the hide well,so can wait 1-2 days for some info.Ready to travel 1-1.5 hrs to a shop ,to get this job done.
Rockwood Tannery was doing it a while ago-but i heard they do now only no hair- tanned hide

You could do it yourself. It is fairly easy and turns out beautifully. Directions on UTube.

You need the brain matter and make a past outta that. That's what tom uses off the mountain men show .
Or since your near a town you could Probably get the real stuff some place .

I did one last year using the brain tan method. I just followed the directions on YouTube. The hair set and it turned out ok. The leather is stiff which is fine for a rug.
I used a pressure washer to flesh the hide...
I don't know of any places that do it "hair-on". Its a lot of work for a tannery to preserve the hair on an entire hide. Perhaps a taxidermist could advise.
Most Taxidermists can do it for you.
You have to break the hide still, you tanned it just fine but you have to break it and work it with oil to get it soft.Quote:
