Useful info and tips for newer hunters

Hi, this is my first post.
I'm a former Ontarian transplanted to Calgary. Used to do a little grouse hunting around the Bancroft area, years ago. I miss the maple forests and all the water.

Anyhow, myself and a good friend and hunting partner started a podcast on the subject of hunting big game on public land. We're 21 episodes in and really having fun. Our goal is to provide tips, instruction, and stories that are useful to newer hunters as well as more experienced ones.
Some topics covered:
-what's in your pack,
-building up a rifle,
-optics 101- interviews with a Vortex pro staffer,
-tracking with Man tracker from the tv show,
-interview with the I-Hunter app developer,
-recap of our Big Horn Sheep backpack hunt,
-recap of Mule Hunt
plus others.

Anyhow, thanks for letting me on your forum. and if you're jealous of the Alberta hunting scene, just know that it takes about 11 years to draw an Alberta turkey tag! The grass is always greener I guess eh? haha.

I'll have to check-out your podcast.
I'm hunting show & podcast addict. lol My wife knows if I'm not hunting I'm thinking about it or watching it on TV. Meat-eater is one of my go to shows. As long as you don't high five & cheer after the kill I will continue watching/listening. Killing an animal should be followed up by a moment of silence to thank the animal for the sustenance it will provide to you & those you choose to feed your kill with. Leave the cheering on the football field.

If your looking to give tips/advice, how about some basic bushcraft and survival skills. Charcloth, fire piston, basic fire starting and care/safety. Tents and other gear like boots, knives, sharping of knives/axes. There is so much you can do. I see guys carry a 100 pound tent around when a couple hammocks/cots and a cheap tarp is all they need.

Meat Eater is a good one. I'd like to see more on Netflix too.
Randy Newberg is also a good one, on youtube. (He agreed to be our guest in the new year. I emailed him a few times about some public land access issues and he was good enough to pass on advise and offer to be on our little podcast.)

We plan on doing an episode on Hunting ethics. It's something that's important to us and has ruined friendships. so worth talking about.

Hey John. Funny thing when I saw your handle the podcast popped into my head. I have just started listening to it in the past few weeks and I really enjoy it. You and Mike are doing a great job. Also, loved the mule deer story. Nice work.
