OK for most this is probably a dumb questions. But what type of brushes should I being using to brush my wife's dog. We have a Shollie. Her hair is shorter than a Collie but a little bit longer then a Sheppard. e have this one brush with small wire teeth but I brush and brush with it and the dog still has pile of hair.
If someone could show me what I should buy maybe from Amazon.

Depends on the type of coat the dog has. The furminator will pull a lot of hair from your dog, but it cuts the guard hair .... not the best idea for the coat on a dog like a lab.

With pure bred dogs, the coat can be more predictable/standard. With a cross-breed like a shepherd/collie cross, it's hard to tell from a photo if this dog has guard hairs and a double coat.Quote:

I just examined her and she doesn't seem to have a secondary coat which I read to be additional secondary hairs growing around the primary air. At first glance the belly hanging coat appears to be two when I examine it seems to look like just primary hairs but I'm not 100% sure little hard to see.
GW, she doesn't look like the type of dog that is jumping into cold water to retrieve a duck for you or one that spends her life tied out in the yard 24/7 so she really doesan't needs to worry to much about her undercoat.
She does however look like a dog that's in need of a good rooming. Both my 'hairy dogs' need to have their undercoat brushed out regularly...tools like the Furminators work great.
Why don't you pop into a PetSmart store and ask them...see what they recommend.
