Olympic Luge event
If you were a parent and your son or daughter came to you and told you they wanted to be a "luge" competitor would you not be both heartbroken and troubled? Are these people not half out of thier minds? Who in their right minds would want to lay flat on a modern luge and barrel down a mountain at insane speeds just wearing a spandex suit and a minimalist helmet? I get the bobsled thing, looks cool. But man these luge competitors just aren't right in the head. :whacked:

You got that right. It's just coming in tv now. Crazy

That spandex suit should protect you. :hamburger

Its the 2 man event that concerns me. Somehow 2 guys in spandex curled up together on that itty bitty sled just congers up visions Id rather not have.

When I was young, dumb and broke I wanted to do all the sliding sports. Now, even the toboggan hill makes me pause. For me though, the trick snowboard stuff is something I never wanted any part of, and judged sports drive me batty.

You got that right. Figure skating is at the top of my list to ignore. If they did their routine then had to duke it out at tne end of their skate til last man standing then that might add some credibility to the sport.

Some of it has been interesting .... if you were watching NBC.... I have been watching CBC when NBC isn't on and there is nothing on History etc. but CBC is the usual, hours of curling and figure skating.... they MENTIONED Biathalon once as to be expected of their pathetic coverage. I see according to the guide that NBC will cover the biathalon this afternoon but not CBC. They paid tens of millions of dollars to win the rights (out bidding private companies with taxpayer money) and then provide coverage .... well let's put it this way... I have a repeat of "Forged in Fire" on not the skating.
-
That biathlon was live last night. Between Rogers, TSN and CBC and internet there is very little that isn't covered, much of it live, but they don't show as much of the less mainstream sports in their repeats, although if we had a medal contender/performance you would see it more. American coverage of the games in notoriously a joke, with minimal live coverage. In the pre internet days it could be argued that that could work, but it doesn't now. Lots of choices, pick and chose.

But atleast they are covering it, and while I have been sitting down getting some work caught up after lunch they have covered speed skating, cross country and more too. CBC coverage sucks, I don't have the others since I consider TSN a waste and I don't have Rogers and if the computer is on it is probably got spreadsheets, Quickbooks, Firefox, skype and email open, not for streaming .... so in my book NBC is far better than the billion+ dollar boondoggle CBC. NBC is covering more sports far better than CBC and I am sure any of the private companies would do better but with a bottomless moneypot filled by taxpayers they make sure they get the coverage in Canada, to the detriment of the coverage. So my choice is NBC... and the German that won Gold is from the same town as Jeagermeister (spelling??... but maybe I will get some next time :-) ) and it is the middle of the night there most of our day and just dawn now... so "live" means nothing.
But it looks like a nice sunrise at this resort in South Korea that has live cameras

But before I started looking at the taxes.... :-( I looked around...
looks like it is snowing heavy in Seoul right now. http://www.insecam.org/en/view/238211/

NBC shows you extended highlights. They show the top handful of athletes shoot, and the 33rd placed American. An event that takes a few hours is shown in half an hour and 17 plus hours after it happened. If that's the way you want to watch it that's fine but to claim the multiple channels that Canada has didn't cover it, at the same time saying you don't have them, is weak, but on message.
