No bears on our baits yet. Cant wait for the first one to show up! Do you guys think they're up and moving and just not hitting baits yet or what? Where I am there is only snow left in certain spots.

I haven't put a bait out yet, and that's only from my experience where I find they don't start to hit really good until mid may - long weekend.
I will probably put one out this weekend or next.
My partner was up at the camp this weekend... Still 2 ft of snow plus in the bush... This warm weather might get them up and moving some but been my experience when they first leave the den they don't travel very far....
after all the slow results from last year I'm surprised you're starting as early as you are.
since this is a late winter I wouldn't even start till May 10th. You might get some action earlier but I would bet the bear is small.
Smaller bears tend to be the first to get going in the spring and the last to shut down in the fall. Their needs are different then bigger bears.
Spring bear is timing your bait with their stomachs. It's hard to believe they don't hit it.
BUT a few more seasons and it should start to make sense.
I wish I had your energy and drive.
Once told to me by an old timer. when the black flies are thick is when the bears are ready.
Keep us posted! Always a good read to see what the young'un are up to!
I've known the feeling.
I know I busted your balls a few times because I'm trying to channel all the energy you got in the right direction.
I was just like you ( or worse probably). I never had very much good advice so I learned through the pain and failure methods. Nothing wrong with that route but it makes the learning curve longer. I do like your videos. If I had your video skills with my good looks - it would be a winner! :scream:
I'm headed up Saturday to my bear spots for a week. No baiting or hunting. Just getting in the changes to my systems. One bait is being moved 1/2 mile to get into another big bear territory. We've identified the spot but need some rubber on the ground to verify.
And some brook trout fishing, we hope
Its funny how, based on my experience and what I preach that I don't typically start a bait until around the middle of may (minus the exception where in my first spring I started last two weeks of April and it went untouched until April 30th or so and I shot that bear on May 4th. The bait wasn't touched again until after the may 24.), but on all the shows where guys are hunting spring bear in Saskatchewan and Alberta they are starting their baits in mid-late april with lots of action in early may before the buds on the trees have started to open.
Spent a few hours walking a power line in WMU 48 where I usually see bears feeding in spring. Never saw a track or any scat or sign of feeding. The grass is just starting so I would give it a week or two and they will be more active. As for baiting in spring I have had better luck towards the end of May
