Shining Tree area

Wondering if anyone has any current info on said area. I used to moose hunt there back in the 90s with my pop when he was still alive, but got out of it when he passed on. I was thinking about starting again and wondered if the area is still as good as then.

Next to impossible to draw moose tag there...do not know moose but lots of bears

Check to see if Three Bears Camp is still there. I used to hunt out of there in the late 70's and early 80's. WE took three Moose out of that area when we only needed two tags per Moose,a couple of Blackies and tons of fish.

Three bears is closed and was bought for a private camp

Times changes all things. It's been years since I've been in the area. Is The Grassy Lake Road still open up to Big Four lake? There were many camping spots along that road that,at one time,went almost all the way to Timmins.

Hunted that area 20+ years ago when there was guaranteed group size tags available.

Grassy Road still goes all the way to Timmins, it comes out on Pine Street.

Glad to hear that. It was fantastic area to hunt and there was lots of great fishing,too. Moose tag availability for that area is tough according to the stats.

Too bad, myself and a few others pulled in there on snowmobiles one stormy night. No reservations or anything, we had misjudged some of the travel distances and didn’t make our intended destination ( yes...I know, I know....)The owners were fantastic, we had a great prime rib supper and a few beers and rolled out of there with full tanks the next day at 5am

Thanks for all the replies. We used to stay right in "town". I think it was called Shining Tree Tourist Camp. Run by an American couple. Got our moose most every year. Used to go about an hour or so north on Grassy Lake Road. I may take a drive up there this summer and look around.
