The best time to go after Coyote is after the Black Bear season closes in the fall when there's snow on the ground for tracking. During the off road vehicle season that runs from May 1 to Nov 30,the weast and east forest areas are a giant motorcross track. Besides that,great care must be taken due to many other forest users that may be present. It's a mecca for archery Deer hunters in full camo,snowmobilers,cross country skiers and hikers. The Ganaraska Forest requires daily passes or seasonal memberships for all people entering the area. More info can be found here www.grca.on.ca.

The Deer hunt is a real toss-up between the two. There's a lot of people in there during the two week "shotgun only" hunt. Unfortunately,Deer are few and far between,being mostly transient between farm watering holes because there's virtually no water within the forest,itself. Once human scent permeates the bush,they go nocturnal until it clears,so,if you haven't connected during the first few days,you likely won't. Archery hunting for Deer is,by far,the greatest chance to connect. Pop-up blinds and portable tree stands are allowed,but,can't be left in the bush overnight or built permanently.
Just as an aside,it's important to note that when using a tree stand,we need to be cognizant of the fact that there's many other small game hunters who hunt there,too. There's a real danger that archery hunters in full camo using a tree stand may have inadvertently placed themselves in direct line of fire of hunters swinging on flaring birds and running squirrels. Personally,I recommend blaze orange vests or camo all the time.
