Just wondering what are your thought on if there really is a difference with obedience training males vs Females and with different breeds.
Dogs are all individuals. Breeds can differ slightly in maturity etc. but if males or females were superior everyone would have the same sex. Get what you like. I've had both and prefer males but it wouldn't stop me from getting a female.

Don't think there is a significant difference in the final outcome however I believe all things similar a female will mature sooner. Meaning if you need a finished dog sooner may want to lean towards a female however if you got time a male will do.
Never found a difference as far as training, endurance, etc. between either sex, male or female. The only drawback with a female is cycling during hunting season, especially if you intend to hunt and run with other dogs, i.e. male gender... Again boils down to personal preferences....
Random weigh in from me but... I know my dad had only females for hunting over the last 30 years.
Last year he got his first male, and showing just as much promise as the rest... just a heck of a lot bigger, and without the urine ruining the lawn.

Male vs female, same breed, I find no difference in training or ability, as far as training, different breeds, I do find a difference
I have one of each. Only hassle is dog going into heat if not spayed. I think temperament has more to do with the individual dog and breeding.
Breed plays a much bigger role than sex, Bloodhounds for example are notoriously independent and obedience is not their strong point. Having said that any male will get distracted if any female in heat is around which is why females in heat have to run trials last.
It is surprising how far the scent of a female in heat can carry, and how far away a male can detect that scent.Quote:
