When my beagle started having what appeared to be rear end issues and wasn't herself earlier this week, I was certain it was glands. Turned out to be "limber tail", a.k.a. cold water tail, broken tail, dead tail, sprung tail. I've been around dogs, mostly sporting dogs, all my life and its the first I've encountered it. Fortunately its harmless and should resolve itself within a week.
