It was not to long after the Gun registry went into affect, back in 96.
I think the ML season must have been somewhere round 2001-02, I remember because I had to leave my first ML at the border till I got it registered.
Many many years ago , back in the late 70,s or very early 80,s ? that,s as close as I can remember as I hunted with a black powder 54 cal. Hawken style back then.
Found this ref from 2004 ....implies that the First weekend of Dec was relatively new.

It looks like the 'dedicated' ML season, that I'm familiar with, was specific to Eastern Ont. Back in 2004 they allocated 6 days of the archery season for ML's...

“The following changes are in effect as of August 2004:
Six days of the existing archery season in WMUs 63A, 63B, 64A, 64B, 65, 66A, 67 and 69B (southeastern Ontario) have been converted to an archery plus muzzleloader season. The new archery plus muzzleloader season will commence on the first Monday following November 28”
My father used to hunt the muzzleloader season down in 92B, and I’m sure I remember him doing it in the late 80’s as Jaycee has said
Did CBSA charge you for storage?
I remember buying my CVA Optima with thumb hole stock at a US WM in 2005/06 on sale for $175 US, reg price $225, ( exchange close to equal back then), went to a local US library, registered online with the CFC, printed out registration paperwork. Back through Canada Customs, 5 miles away, they seemed concerned (gun), asked me to bring in paperwork, paid $25 in tax, back home in 15 mins. I've been hunting deer with it since.
