Harvested my first deer!
So here's the back storey:
Our gang has been hunting the same property since before I was even born. They've always done well but recently the old guard has slowly dwindled off leaving only 4 guys left to cover a 300 Acre property. We haven't had much success the last 2 years during the Controlled hunt but we hoped for the best in 2018.
So this year our camp consisted of my cousin, my brother, my grand father and I. We held our spirits high even though the weather didn't look promising, but we knew from scouting and trail cams there were plenty deer on the property. The key would be to be in the right stand at the right time.
So after seeing 3-4 on opening Monday we were convinced this would be the year to break our unlucky streak. Monday and Tuesday passed with no tags filled. On Wednesday morning we decided to change up our strategy. I would head out to a cleaning in the woods where our gang has always had great success while the others tried to hunt stands along a field we haven't sat at this week.
It was now about 7:35am with no signs of deer and lots of wind. I began to doze off which I honestly never do, probably dreaming of waking up to a 12point monster 15 yds infront of me, when all of a sudden I'm startled by a buck grunt!! I immediately pop up and look around. There he is, across the cleaning, checking out his scrape, licking a branch. Couldn't believe my dream worked! (Although half the size). I lined him up as he began to walk back into the bush. Waited for the moment he slowed and BAM dropped him on the spot at 60 yrds!! Man was I ever excited!
