Well just started hunting a new place, and things are going good. Dropped one like a stone, and two outside on ground. Still chilly with wind, but going to warm up today.
May set the decoys out and do some shotgunning.

I'm assuming pigeons eh?
They got crows too. Lots of them.
The big problem he has is rats...
I think there may be an owl around, unless the cats are climbing the support posts and killing pigeons in the hay loft.
Wind outside is getting stronger, and the cats( or Dog) stole one of my birds.
you need to find a hunting buddy with a Jagdterrier. kills the rats, fetches the birds.
unless your dog has a prehensile tail and opposing thumbs on all four paws, it's going to have a hard time reaching the birds we shot in the hay loft. :D There are two sides to the loft with a wide space between, you have to climb ladders to get into the sides of the loft but it's open from wall to wall.
A shooting partner is just what I need. A couple Night Vision :ninja: scopes on a couple 22's would go a long way to helping David with the rats. The sign suggests the rats are big, maybe a little much for even .25 Calibre Air Rifles.:scream:
What my Drahts lack in tails, they make up for in spirit, but I think swinging from rafter to rafter is a bit much to expect, even from a versatile hunting dog.
i had some nasty looking rats in my barn this winter. sat out with the air rifle but it wouldn't put a dent in the population. caved and got 3 cats. no more rats...
You lucked out there. I have shot rats on the docks in NJ and Philadelphia PA that are big as raccoons. A fruit warehouse I pickup at has a picture of a 45lbs rat that came out of a shipping container full of bananas. They say it took three hollow points from a 45 APC in the chest, hissed and curse at them for ten minutes before it died. Just to answer the question, it was not shot a fourth time because it was in front of an Electrical transformer.
I shot a couple pigeons around the barn this fall for the dog and I noticed one was banded.
Neon green plastic band on one leg, anyone missing a racing pigeon? Lol
I started watching other pigeons after with binos and couldn't see any other banded. There's a group of about 15-20 that live in the pole barn at my dad's. Dog loves chasing them and dad hates them so they get the shotgun treatment

I shot a banded pigeon about 8 years ago. I traced the number to a fellow near Peterborough who had racing pigeons. It looked like he may have gotten out of the sport as his site did not list any recent races or results. Wonder if yours just went astray or if it was a similar situation. My band had info I could trace, maybe even a website. Not sure about yours.
And 45 lb rats? All I can say is wow. Only ever seen a few and none of those would have topped 2-3 lbs I wouldn't think.
