Anyone use a Sportdog "contain and train"?

I am considering a wired in-ground "invisible" fence for my new Lab. I have fence on 3 sides of the rear yard and considering the invisible fence for the 4th side(200ft).
(I would like to build a physical fence, but I can't build the fence on the easement and would have to move the fence 1.5 meters inside the property line...thereby losing a sizable chunk of my yard)

In my research I see that Sportdog makes a "contain & train"; invisible fence collar + remote collar in one. I have read the install manual and understand the required regimented training required.

They work great most of the time, but if your dog bolts and gets across the wire it will not want to come back in and then will be running loose and possibly get killed on the road.

Or keep other dogs / predators out!

Its my understanding that with newer technology the collars don't stimulate returning to the containment area.

That's the first I've ever heard about it.
One way signal ????? it would be great if there is such a thing, then our neighbors dog would still be alive.
But I highly doubt it.

As has been posted, it does nothing to keep out strange roaming dogs or predators.

I have an underground fence, I've used it for about 5 years now. It has "anti breakthrough" built in to the collar so it will continue to correct until the dog passes back into the perimeter for up to 30 seconds I believe.

I have the full yard done and live in a subdivision, that being said, I have a physical barrier around the back and don't ever leave the dog unattended in the front. I've had (on several occasions) unleashed and uncontrolled dogs wander onto my property, so that is a concern. In 5 years he's only ever left the property twice, and both times the battery was dead in the collar and he chased other dogs.

I had the containment system and had the transmitter mounted inside the garage and it failed after about a year. I called the supplier that I bought it from (near London Ontario) and he was very good to deal with sending me a new one no charge. It also failed within about another year and a half. The receiver collar also failed. No more Sport Dog for me.

Yeah I wouldn't spend money on anything made by that company
