Proposal to reduce the bear bait to vehicular right of way distance from 200m to 30m

"To respond to these concerns, the ministry is proposing regulatory changes to reduce the minimum distance for bait placement from a right of way for public vehicular traffic and marked recreational trails from 200 metres to 30 metres.
There is no change proposed to the existing 500 metre bait placement restriction from dwellings and public buildings."

The 200m rule was just plain unnecessary. Too bad it wasn't brought up earlier to be in place for the spring season. I have been having knee issues and it's going to be a real pain for me this year! :(

Yes the MNR Want to work with hunters , but the hunters are not going on Bear hunt ....!
To help to save Moose Calf population from Bears ... Shame on them ...

Nice to see some common sense here. I hope it passes. Both my buddy and I are older and 200 m is just plain too far to carry bait, stands, etc.

I sent them my comments and that is exactly what I said. A 200m walk in the nasty bear woods is just too much for our aging hunters. It's about time the MNR woke up on this issue.

Are the bear harvest numbers published anywhere? Since the opening of the spring bear pilot harvest numbers MUST have increased. This year I noticed we no longer have additional bear tags available in wmu47.

There is a bear bait pile just over 500 metres from my cottage, it is not mine. It is not the smell that drifts over once in a while, that bothers me , but the dam turkey vultures, crows and seagulls, that are constantly hanging around.

Not our Bear baits! lol

Ours are a good 15k from the highway and 200m in from an old logging road... :)
