Next year, I plan to finally try deer hunting. Never have went deer hunting before so can someone explain to me how the license system works? Do I have have to apply for a doe tag? If not does the license work like it does for a calf moose license?

In short:
- You buy an antlered tag: good for any WMU in Ontario
- If you buy it before the cut-off date (march 1st - July 2nd 2019 this year) you can apply for the anterless draw for a specific WMU (you pick a 1st and 2nd choice) the results come out in august. https://www.ontario.ca/page/apply-hunt-antlerless-deer
- There are also additional tags that are available for purchase for selected WMUs only.
- Controlled hunt (to use a shotgun on a specific week in a specific WMU for Southern Ontario) is a different matter; you apply to a different draw where you pick the WMU & week of controlled. If you are successful you can use a shogtun in the selected WMU during the selected week only. There is no bow-hunting in that WMU for that week that controlled is on.
When you go for your course, ask the instructor to spell it out for you if you are unsure of anything And/or call your local MNR and they'll talk to you on the phone until you don't have any more questions.
In WMU # 80, during the controlled hunt Dec.2 to Dec.8, that hunt is for Bows and Muzzle Loading guns are permitted.
" under notes " page 42 this years summary, it has been this way for years.
I suggest you read the hunting regulations summary then ask any clarifying questions you may have concerning the draw and seasons based on the area you plan to target. So far the questions you asked are there in back and white.
I wasn't sure if an antlered tag, was good in every WMU. Like I said will be my first time. Thanks for the info much appreciated
