I was up this morning to head to the tree stand, but ended up going back to bed. My thought was that should a shot present itself, but with the wind potentially playing havoc with my arrow, its not worth it.
Does anyone else bail on days like this, or was I just looking for a reason to go back to bed.
I only have limited time to hunt, so I don't bail. Just know your limits when it comes time to take the shot in high winds. The biggest deer I have ever seen have been on 80 km/h windy days. They never game me any shots, but I was glad I was hunting when I saw them.
If the wind will not snap the tree I am in then I go out,
I have some locations where it is close to ridges where the go to get out of the wind.
If I was only to have a spot of a fields edge, I may do the same and go back to bed,
If you are keeping your shots within +/- 30 yards (depending on your bow), I don't think the wind would play a significant factor.

Personal safety is another great reason not to go. A few years back while bear hunting in very high winds one of our hunters had a large tree branch come down and hit him on the arm causing sever swelling and discomfort.
It just missed his head by a few inches. it would have surely crushed his skull.
Actually this year was in Gogama Bear hunting, I came out of the stand at 530 as it was just too windy, went in the next day and a tree beside my tree had come down, have no idea if it would have hit me or not but glad I was not in the tree when it happened, because had I been, it maybe a long time before I got back in one
80km maybe not. But u give me a light rain and a faster then usual wind and u got the ingredients for some good buck weather.
i sometimes bail but sometimes i just stick it out. i went out yesterday. it really sucked for rain and wind but i ended up seeing two does and a buck. sometimes crap weather pays off. i'd just have a hard time getting in a tree in this junk.
I hunt mobile. Hang & hunt every sit. So if it's super windy, i'll look to move further into cover, not climb as high, and reduce my shooting distance accordingly
