Well I just got home from the vet, $500 poorer. After our Thanksgiving hunt I noticed Jake had a lump on his head. It quickly progressed and both eyes were swollen shut and his head was twice as big as it normally is. We've been at the vet every day this week and today they put him out and cleaned the abscess and put a drain in. I took the first half of next week off to hopefully hit the big woodcock flights but looks like I have no dog for at least 2 weeks. What a bummer.
Here's to a speedy recovery. Any ideal what caused it?

It's amazing what some dogs will go through because of their desire to hunt and please their owner... Heartbreaking photos...
Yeah even at almost 7 years old his grasp on self preservation isn't very strong. He charges cover like a freight train.

Wow, your dog's lucky to be alive. After trauma like that, your dog may become more calm and self preserving. My wife's dog earlier this year swallowed a piece of wood (idiot), cost 6g's to save her. She is a completely different dog after that. Not so full steam ahead anymore.
