I almost bought one many years ago when we still had a lot of groundhogs around. It wa a Rem. model 700, I knew the owner and he let me use it to try for a couple of weeks, I found that it was a real barrel fouler and required a lot of cleaning to keep it shooting accurately, "I didn't buy it ".
I do have a .204 Ruger cla. which I think is much better.
.17 rem is a great little coyote and smaller caliber. I hunt with a couple guys who use them for yotes, no issues putting them down and yes they are MUCH quieter than your 243 and 270. I don’t think finding ammo is an issue, most places with a good variety of ammo should carry some stock. I too have a .204 but have always liked the little .17rem. I haven’t used my .204 for a couple years, switched back to a .223. If the price was decent and you like the gun I wouldn’t hesitate to pick it up!
I owned a Sako in 17 Rem.
Stupid accurate and fast. Fouled barrel like crazy but I liked the gun.
Go with a 17 FB or hornet or clean it every 30-50 rounds.
My buddy had a 17rem in a 700
I shot a fox with it at about 80 yards. Hit it dead center and the bullet near cut him in half
Friend of mine had one, thing was accurate providing it wasn't windy. He shot a rabbit in the head and it rolled the skin right back to it's back legs.
I run a 204 and like it. But the 17 rem is just one of those calibers that is neat to have.

U can do everything with it that is required of a varmint caliber in S Ont plus u can shoot crows,pigeons ,etc due to its bullet frangibility their are no richochets
Its fast,flat,very pleasant to shoot and quiet to boot.With the 25gr bullet no coyote within 300 yds is safe

The difference between the .17 FB was pretty drastic and the Hornet even more so.
What I really liked about every one is that you could see your shot and accuracy gets top marks.
Coyotes, though you may kill them, a heavier frangible bullet is nice to have. Even a 204 Ruger with 32 grain Vmax hits way harder and I used to drive those just over 4350 fps. Nowadays I use 220 Swift and 22-250 or 6.5x55 with a Sierra 85HP.
