December Fishing in St. Martin/St. Maarten - Mahi Mahi & a 78lb Wahoo!
Early December, my wife and I decided to go out on a fishing charter during our family vacation to St. Maarten.
We scheduled our Trip for the Monday, however our Captain informed us a couple days before that Sunday was better day to go out, not much wind and a nice a calm sea. We up at 5:30am, and a 7am departure from Sandy Bay on the French Side and we were off on our Adventure!

So the Captain and First Mate were Awesome!, and the boat was super clean and well maintained! Unfortunately the my son and wife got sea sick but he soon felt fine after throwing up, She however did not and wasn't able to fish.
We made a run out to some markers that they have placed in different areas, and we tossed bait to see what would come up, and bam we were hooked into some Mahi Mahi! Not Huge ones but we caught a few of them on spinner rigs, and the others trolling around the markers.

My son Jonathon was so proud to catch his 1st Mahi Mahi, and he reeled it in all by himself! My Daughter didn't want to touch hers for a picture!
So after fishing the markers for a few hours, we switched up to trolling of the shelf for Wahoo! And even though we only, and by that I mean I, caught 1 it was an Awesome Fish! My Arm felt like a noodle after reeling it in, as it took about 20 - 25 min.

78 lbs! Was only a few shy of Captain's Personal Best (82), and was the largest one caught so far during the Season on the island (so the capt. said!), Doesn't matter to me, as it is the biggest fish I have ever Caught!!!
So most charters on the island are Captain's Catch, but we were able to get plenty of filets to take with us for a few dinners, and man was it delicious!
I totally Recommend Dexter's Fishing and Capt. Christophe for your Deep Sea Fishing needs on the Island of St. Martin/St.Maarten
