Habitat Lost, worse than what Pigs cause!

Nutria , In Louisiana Nuria are causing a big problem by destroying habitat along the Mississippi River and it,s marsh's.
"Habitat is lost, worse than what pigs cause ",is what they claim.
In 1976 trappers took out 1.8 million pelts to the tune of $13.7 million, then the prices dropped. Now the State is paying a $6 dollar bounty on tails,paying out more than $25 million dollars.

The State still claims that this is doing very little as the habitat loss is still great with not much recovery. They claim that the nutria are now in more than a dozen states , mostly in the south, and have reproducing populations in Oregon and Washington.

Because of this self lock down I have been reading just every book in the house.

I recently purchased a copy of The Wild Turkey and its Hunting, the author is a guy named Edward Avery McIIhenny. This book was published in 1914. Really good read and coincidentally the author, McIIhenny is the guy who is credited, infamously with bringing the Nutria to Louisiana from South America around that time.

Ironically he was somewhat of a nature lover and a naturalist, and is probably rolling in his grave if he knew what it has done to his beloved state.
Another little useless fact, Mr McIIhenny's father was the founder of the famous Tabasco sauce company, which he took over. To this day the company is run by his family.

Now ain't that something !!
Can anybody tell how friggin bored I am?

There was a TV program on a couple of years back stating they were good to eat. Don't know why more people haven't got on to them as a game animal.

That info about McIIhenny , was mentioned in the article, bored ?? people do learn interesting facts when they are so called bored, they read most anything.

The stupidity of human's knows no bounds,rabbits introduced into Australia and New Zealand,foxes,peacocks, trying to replicate things from back home.The Americans are really over the top with all kinds of exotic species now in the Everglades.........

Apparently , they do but cannot keep up, they breed twice a year with litters of one to thirteen, and the adults can weight up to 20 pounds.

Back in the days back home when nutria became a thing(same like here-farmed for pelts)the farms were selling nutria meat.I actually bought one whole kitchen ready nutria,cooked and eat it(some family members joined me,some looked at us as we have two heads).Most definitely was a nice tasting meat.Not an overpowering flavor ,and great texture.

Since i was living with my parents as teenager at the time,they disapproved any further culinary trials for me.
