Habitat Lost, worse than what Pigs cause!
Nutria , In Louisiana Nuria are causing a big problem by destroying habitat along the Mississippi River and it,s marsh's.
"Habitat is lost, worse than what pigs cause ",is what they claim.
In 1976 trappers took out 1.8 million pelts to the tune of $13.7 million, then the prices dropped. Now the State is paying a $6 dollar bounty on tails,paying out more than $25 million dollars.
The State still claims that this is doing very little as the habitat loss is still great with not much recovery. They claim that the nutria are now in more than a dozen states , mostly in the south, and have reproducing populations in Oregon and Washington.
