Seems like a very verbose way of saying what anyone who spends any time on the range just knows. Especially black powder shooters.
A clean barrel + first shot, is almost always a flyer. A fouled barrel first shot is usually pretty close to warm barrel tight group POA...opening up more as the barrel gets hotter.
Most shooters go hunting with a 'dirty' barrel. The 1st shoot is the only one that counts.
He is right, if your first shot with a 'cold' fouled barrel can be a fixed known and accommodated for, it will make you a better shooter

I agree I always hunt with a fouled barrel. Yet at the range a freshly cleaned barrel has never been more than an inch or two off at a hundred yards with any of my rifles including muzzleloader.

I find the opposite to be true with shotgun sabots. Clean clean clean means consistent accuracy.
