I’ve been duck hunting the Sudbury area for 20 years now. I find it challenging. Every year I scout out swamps and marshes in the bush. Every year it changes, the beavers change the water ways fast. One year I’ve got a great marsh, the following year it’s a meadow. I don’t hunt any of the big water, but a few years back I ran into a group that hunted Witson for geese by the pump house and did well. Best suggestion I could give you is to scout all the marshes or lakes near you and see what kind of duck activity you have in the morning and evening. Decide from there. Most of my spots are smaller beaver ponds and swamps that usually only hold woodies and teal, maybe the odd mallard on occasion.
Best of luck
Thanks for the info! I’m close to witson so maybe ill go check that out for geese. I’ve been trying to find some bonds amd swamps without to much luck overall but i will keep trying
Thanks
Exactly. It's all part of learning when new to waterfowling.
You're not going to get handouts. We all spend hours and hours behind the wheel and on our boots scouting to consistently put birds in the bag.
Biggest piece of advice I can give you is scout at least three times as much as you hunt.

Yea i know i agree, i have been trying to get a good spot but i never come home with more than a handfull of birds lol....keep trucking i know. Thanks guys
a handful of birds is a decent job waterfowling in sudbury mate.
on the outflow of vermilion lake is an easy spot to get to and I have done well there. Upstream from gordon lake road, but down stream of the lake. On the Inflow end there is Simonds lake, and that is really good, just a little harder to get to.
I'm out that ways all next week, I'll try to dm if I see anything noteworthy and I have reception.
That said. With a second covid19 wave on the horizon I feel there's going to be mixed feelings again on here about going out to scout/hunt vs. the stay at home.
