Trail Cam Tips/ settings?

So i got my dad a trail cam for his birthday (i got a 2 pack so i kept 1 for myself hah) got some SD cards.

my question to you guys is what settings seem to work best for everyone?

do you use video or picture mode?

what burst picture mode works best and delay time?


i will be setting it up on a edge of a tree line facing into a little pocket of open field surrounded by treeline.

any comments are appreciated thanks in advance. ;);):)

Try it in the yard first before taking it out. Have some the video works great others the pics are better.
Hang it up and get someone to walk back and forth see what works. Other then that I usually have mine set for two pictures and a minute delay.

After testing make sure there are no grasses or other plants or branches near the lens. Always a good idea to clear this stuff away. Try and set up the camera facing away from the sun and have it set about 2 feet high.

ive heard about waist height, and as for the sun it wont be pointing that way it will be pointing towards the bush away from sunrise or sunset. do you any setting tips as well? thanks :)

Do not worry much about the interval,especially if there will be no 1000 deer in a day.This will never happen unless you are on a bait.Even then slim to none to have SD card run out of space.
I like shortest interval possible,one picture at a time.7 sec sleep mode-wake up-0.9 sec trigger=every 8 sec a deer picture.They do not stick around for a day to fill the card,so i have many nice pictures of the same animal.Easy to delete unwanted pictures.

Never run out of SD card space UNLESS a weed or branch was not twitching in front of the lenses.As JM mentioned-take care of weeds before they take care of your SD card.It i tough to page thru 1500 pictures,to find 4 deer pictures and the rest-same weed,moving left -then right........
One more advice-weeds DO GROW,so small weed in May will be a huge weed in July(believe me-it happens)

as for the weeds oh i know haha i hunt on a big farm and they have a couple different fields they use so a couple years at a time they dont use 1 field if they dont cut the grass boy oh boy its like a jungle haha

In areas that are open to the wind, you may want to reduce the sensitivity to medium otherwise you may get lots of pictures of nothing i.e. false triggers.

Beware of bears! They like to bite cameras.

So I went up today, set mine up on the edge of a bush facing a lane they like to cross and looking under an apple tree, put the other one more inside a wooded area with a little open patch with tons of trails going through, set the triggers to medium and tested before we left, as for thr bears there are none in the area we go to only humans to be aware of LOL I think we hid them quite well tho

I little off topic but I placed one on a meat bait pile yesterday for the first time... It should be interesting to see how many coyotes show up... Can't wait to post some pics.... I placed mine at waste height about 10' from the bait site, removed most of the taller grass, hopefully I get a lot of pics....Can't wait.. :)
