Has any one check with their butcher yet this year buddy myself stopped in at ares today.
Because of covid their work load is 3 times of normal and space isn’t going to be available for deer.
Are guy said inspectors said no butcher will be hanging wild game this year
We usually use a butcher for warm weather bow season doesn’t look promising this year
We have all the equipment except a proper cooler.
Dropped 3 bears in the last week. Business as usual. No mention of any issues.

Actually he did say we have to bring our own boxes this season as he can't get any from the liquor store due to COVID.
yeah its going to be hard. as a hog farmer i called my butcher back in april and soonest i could get in was september. they are now booking into this coming spring.
with that fiasco, dropping by the day of with a deer is not going to go over well with how stressed they all are.
as deer is one of those "you can't sell and dont need to go through an inspected facility" kind of thing, the mobile guys are going to be busy!
So are the little butcher picking up for the large processors like Cargill ?
Are guy says right now their 14-15 hour days and their tired so he basically said if you get a deer where we can’t hang it to break it down freeze it. Then bring I in frozen they’ll fit it into their freezer and butcher it when the have time. But to hang it InTheir cooler is unlikely

Get a cheap fridge or freezer from kijiji. If you dont have space to keep it year round just put it back up for free someone will take it. I got a nice stainless steel fridge for free for curing meat and also hanging deer during deer season. Removed all shelves and cleaned it up and we are ready to pack some serious venison in it. Last year I put my buck quartered into a half size freezer (not plugged in) with bags of ice on the bottom and kept it cool for a couple days. Have used brand new hurby curby or other new garbage can as well with ice bags in previous years.Quote:

If you are at a camp and dont have the space, a few cheap coolers from cdn tire will work. Again put ice on the bottom, open the drain plug and duct tape the lid closed to keep it as cool as possible. Put it on an incline so the blood water drains out. Every day or two put more bag ice in.
Butchering deer is a tradition for us and lots of fun, never used a butcher ever.
