Season getting close

The calls have started for the nuisance beavers. Anyone changing up what they are doing with the fur market the way it is.

I know I regretfully told a bunch of my landowners that I would not be trapping coon unless they absolutely needed them gone. Most where okay with it when I explained the market situation.

Kinda sat down and looked at what I will be doing and for the first time there was no bright spots/animals to target. Always manage the land but not sure if I will cover gas never mind everything else.

Hopefully the first auction is held with the borders open and its a roaring success but do not think so. Going to take my minimum and leave a lot of animals this year.

When do you think the coons will be prime, just asking as I wouldn't mind tanning a nice one for myself this year.,

I just targeted beavers this year to meet my quota and that is all.

I have to agree with you, it is best to just leave them and hopefully the markets turn around.

Yes, I too, will be only doing the bare minimum on the farms I have. Coyote will be my main target this winter, both with the gun and traps. Not only will it help with the populations of the tastier animals, but gives me a reason to be out in the bush after the deer season is over.

I got a $46 check for what should have been $1800 worth of prime fur at the last sale. 90% of it is held over. $2.50 for prime February 2XL rats, colour A 2XL beaver select for $12.60...... the only traps I'll set will be for nuisance beaver where the roads dept. pays you per animal. Not even worth setting traps as pretty much everything is held over and not selling. Won't even be worth go after coyote this year as all of the easterns didn't even sell. Not sure how Fur Harvesters Auction is staying in business when the industry is shut down.

So what's the law on selling your own furs? What if it's turned into a product then sold ? Yeah it cost more time but then you could turn that 2$ coon fur into something a little more valuable and something sold locally?

You can tan and sell your own fur. Otherwise you need to sell the raw pelts to someone who holds a fur dealer licence.
Some guys are tanning their pelts and making stuff, niche market and time consuming.

About the same but my rats where spring and went for the same price. Actually did okay on my eastern select coyotes and had some grade western which was a bonus. Beaver hurts, except for the castor. 2XL select xdrk otter 13.60 [emoji3061]
Do not think you can pay anyone to take raccoon. Looked into gronewelds for coon this year since they made the move into Canada but they seem to be only in the western provinces.
