Kept him in a cage in knee deep water (rice patties fields if I remember correctly) .... One day when he could not stand it anymore, he put his head down and for the first time in his life he prayed. He never believed in God but he was at the end of his life (could not take it anymore) and said something like " if you do exist why are doing this to me".... As he looked up to the sky that night, the top of the cage was unlocked and open..... In his mind, it was a miracle "God was listening".... He crawled out, and crawled across a river where he was eventually found by some American troops.....
He did a lot of stupid things when he got back, lived an isolated life for the longest time as the war experience took a toll on him.... After several years he returned home to his parents home and took up cooking...He enjoyed cooking, got a job as a cook, then a few years later started to teach cooking classes (lessons)..... Then one day out of the blue........I guess he was reflecting on life........ He remembered how he got there.
He still teaches but now he teaches the word of the Lord.....He told me that story over 20 yrs ago and it still gets to me.....
