My Buck of a lifetime scored 191 5/8 typical.

Old fella in camp last night made an interesting point. He said all this talk of it being "legal" was BS as doing this is Not legal in Ontario. We have a different legal view of penned hunts. His point was even on a pheasant farm the birds fly free and can leave. So with that he said it's fine not to condem this fellow because he went to where it is legal but it sure as sh;t shouldn't be on an Ontario site sponsored by the OFAH no less. Wise old guy who gave little respect to the hunter and said he felt sorry that he'd developed an acceptance of this act. Worse was that by posting it here he believes it was a"hunt".

So do as you please but the hypocrites are alive and well here. Being a respectful, level headed, nice guy trumps what you guys talk about representing in this sport regularly. Throw in some cool YouTube videos and you're good to go. You can condem this as not hunting and you should ,while still welcoming him to your board and asking him to share his ethical fair chase hunt stories.

You all know that but your desire to have this a wonderful board of pleasant exchanges (not a bad thing to aspire to) you will sell out your own hunting ethics and values.

I also wonder if all things the same and he came on aftering shooting a 110-120 class saying what a great trip and hunt he had would you all be so lovey dovey? I suspect the big antler thing has helped you all to look past the fact this isn't anything remotely related to what you guys do and come here to discuss. This is one "story" Marc should if left off the board. Nice, super guy or not.

Wow is all I have to say about some of these posts. The guy is still an Ontario hunter and is sharing his story from somewhere where this is legal. Although I dont agree with shooting deer inside a fence is anywehre close to fair chase, I still thought it was a good story and like the pics. That was his idea of a trophy. I also think there are many places down in the states that offer fair chase hunts and I dont think there is anything wrong with them. By the time a guy leases land, pays for food and lodgin for a week, you might as well go with a fair chase outfitter (I realize this was not the case here). I think most of the guys who hopped down his throat for this hunt would hop down someones throat who did a fair chase hunt as well because it wasnt done in Canada. Either way I think to each his own and if this is the trophy he wanted, at the end of the day, this was just another story for me to read on here whether I agree with it or not.

You're misrepresenting the responses and tone of this thread.

Nobody has said that his is a fair chase hunt. Nobody has said that it was an equally difficult hunt to what we face up here in the Ontario wilds (not even Marc himself). Nobody has said that this is the ideal way they would want to score a true trophy buck.

Most of the Marc-positive posts have simply been respecting him for being honest about the whole deal and for taking some extremely negatively flak with a level head and patient responses.

Where's the hypocrisy in any of that?

A freezer full of meat is a freezer full of meat, no matter how you look at it. :)

ExpeditionMarc and Oddmott are setting the standard for respectful behaviour on these forums. Kudos to you both, and everyone else that conducts themselves respectfully.

Great-looking deer, but I'm personally against penned hunting.

I don't consider that a hunted animal, just an animal that was shot. To me it would mean nothing. Nice horns though!

I wouldn't shoot grouse on the road up north either, but lots do. As long as it's legal , to each their own.
