Heading out tomorrow
Went 2 for 4 yesterday north of London.
We expected to possibly find some flight birds up around Georgian Bay on Thursday and Friday, but only had sporadic flushes. It think we flushed 6 birds in the two days. One significant issue was the lack of water in our usual very good covers. The ground was still a little moist but we are often walking in 6-8 inches of water in the years when there have been lots of birds. We also ended up with 15 grouse flushes and that was down a lot from previous years.
Moved 7 in the rain today.
In years past, my North Bay area spot has still held woodcock in late October, but today we saw none. Also noticed that the beaver ponds were devoid of ducks. Looks like the migrating species have moved through. We did find some year-round locals though...

Nice well done !
Great work. The only thing your picture is freaking me out......LOL the only thing worse than red eye has to be them devil dog eyes there. Ya I know hunters first photographers second but there has to be an app to fix that. Good hunting guess its time to track further south to catch up with them woodcock.
I went out this morning, right after the rain stopped. Was hoping for lots of action but for 2.5 hours of walking only flushed 2 grouse and no woodcock... pretty disappointing day
