What if some wild, crazy storm blows in. Be it a severe blizzard that might last a day or two, be it a severe wind/lightning storm that threatens to blow down trees. I was chased from the field this past December during the height of the 3 day blizzard. And we were party hunting, had a couple buck tags, doe tags. Myself I had my buck.
If a Doe had come in say 15 minutes before a tree falling nearby made me question my sanity. Would I have waited on the tag holder to arrive assuming it was a case of, she piled up in sight, a radio call went out "doe down, bring a tag"...

And if a CO happened to come by and they do check that area. "well officer, the tag holder should be here any minute, to tag it and then start helping to lug it back to the bike, so we can all get out of dodge asap"
What if...what if you go out for moose one morning and forest fire thats over yonder, wind change....and now its headingg your way...Gonna "wait" for th tag holder before you start dressing?

Their are as many dumb regulations in our sport as their are in all other aspects of our society.That's because when committees meet,they discuss putting forth new regulations/legislation,stop signs,stop lights etc.They never discuss removing the dumb old rules which no longer apply, or don't make any more sense.
The MNRF just revamped the regs to "make things simple"
Under the new regs,when I go "pheasant hunting" in the Hudson Bay Lowlands, I will be allowed 10 pheasants per day.How sweet.
I think it is meant to throw off any visiting hunters.Point them in the direction where their are no pheasants,in this way, we protect our resident pheasant hunters who know not to look their.

I guess my point was what's the difference? If you are waiting for the tag holder why can't or shouldn't you be able to start field dressing on site?
As some have said, it may be against the law, but doesn't make sense. How does the beginning of field dressing a deer/moose on site hinder the tag holder from arriving in a timely manner? It would just be common sense, start skinning, take pictures until the tag holder shows up.
The tag holder will still require the same amount of time to arrive whether you start field dressing or not. I mean if you are caught without a tag in the area (party hunting) you will be guilty whether the deer/moose is gutted or not.
