On a more serious note a 180 gr 30 caliber bullet travelling at 2500 fps does not care what platform it was fired from. It is just as capable of making a clean shot regardless of how many more rounds are sitting below it, or weather it was manually pushed into the chamber with a bolt action, or fed in automatically with a spring behind a carrier. Just like everything else over time things change. I have never fired a black powder rifle, and I don't have any interest in it, but I fully 100% support those that choose to hunt with one. If we don't come together as a united group as gun owners and hunters then slowly we will all lose. I would very much like it if future generations could carry on hunting regardless of what type of rifle they use.

Well... it wasn't that long ago it was legal to hunt using an AR15.
I wonder how many of the "OMG you shouldn't hunt with a "black rifle" " crowd would poop their pants if handgun hunting was ever made legal?

They'd probably insist that only revolvers should be taken afield.

Both were legal in the past. I've eve seen pics of some good moose taken with an AK47.

Thanks. Not my best, but good eating. My personal best is a 15 point taken with a muzzleloader. Then again, the ML is black so someone is likely offended by it. :p

I don't care about the platform one hunts with, my argument has always been the actual "hunting" with anything that is super high capacity (within the confines of our Canadian laws, ie 10rds)
Now the main counter argument has been for popping at coyotes, which I still think you should try and take any animal as quickly as possible, but my real concern here is for deer. I have seen too many lost and crippled deer over the years at the hands of the crowd who figured they had a whole stack behind the first one to care about making number one count, none of the platforms were black guns and not all were semi's, there were levers and pumps in there as well. All had the legal 5 rounds. What good could be achieved by allowing 5 additional rounds? I'm sure there are a handful of guys out there who are good at running shots, in which case the 5 is still more than enough for you, but there is a mountain of knobs who can't hit the broadside of a barn off a rest, it's these guys that need to be kept in check.
So in my case just to be clear, not against black guns, not against handguns, not a fan of magazine restrictions (when in use at a range or other sport shooting recreational scenario). Just for the purposes of hunting with a rifle, I think 5 is more than enough, just for the sake of the animal I don't want to see slowly dying in the woods with a bullet up its arse dying of sceptic shock or any other slow suffering demise.

I hunt with a 10 round mag, although every animal I have shot with the XCR with the exception of that running coyote was 1 shot. The issue comes with the responsibilities of being an ethical hunter. It's a sport which requires us to know our limitations and those of our equipment. Unfortunately trying to legislate that is not only impossible, but serves to deny freedoms to those who are ethical hunters. If we are going to point fingers, a local group fire 14 rounds in one day from lever action rifles at 3 different deer last season. They failed to recover even one. Practice and knowing your limitations are the only things that will prevent wounded animals.

If you had shot at something running you would know that this is not true. I have seen lots of game feeling at the second or third shot, but you might find that unethical?! I don't think a 10 rounds clip is a good thing but if it's legal I don't think it matter.

It's unfortunate, but there are those out there who are chronic bad shots, and it is those, and there seems to be more than a few out there, that I would like to see restricted.
Again notice that I mentioned pumps and levers, which I also own, use and enjoy, not to mention a non restricted black gun.
Perhaps the real issue here would be better solved if they implemented a qualifying shoot portion to the Hunter Education program, I'm pretty sure there are other provinces that have this already in place. This might weed out some of the people who are stupid or unsafe in the woods. Nothing better than practical experience, which would be well served in a supervised environment.

The only issue I see there is that the safety course won't provide enough time or practice. Maybe mentoring is a better idea? The only thing that will make anyone a good shot, is lots of practice.
