#4 Buck, modified choke, shots within 40 yards.
Another vote for #4 buck. I have shot the 3.5" load through a modified choke with good results. 54 pellets caused one to cartwheel when he was struck. He was a big fella running in front of hounds.
Now I load it into 16ga shells for use in my Blaser combo gun. Its in the barrel above a round of 5.6x50R Mag. Covers all scenarios.
.22 is a tad light, but,as mentioned, can be used as a kill shot on a downed yote if necessary. I've taken yotes out using standard 3" 12ga #4 Turkey loads when dogs come into Turkey decoys during the Turkey hunts. They do a fine job, but, forget about pelt retention because it really tears them up. I don't use a .22 when yote hunting, preferring a longer range yote getter (.243Win 55gr BT;.270Win-130gr BT) with a 12ga back up for yotes sneaking into close range too close for a rifle shot. It's a bit of a chore hauling the gear in to a stand, but,if you're going to sit for a couple of hours in the same spot,it's really not a big deal. Good luck.
Lead BB works too, if you can find it.
I picked up a box of 3in lead BB from the good old days of field goose hunting with lead :), shoot that through a full choke and you will drop them.
My dad bought a bunch of guns on the weekend....got the entire gun safe actually.
Found at least 50 rounds of SSG, 25 lead BB and likely 20 rounds of of 00 buck.
Was even an old wooden Rem 700 stock in the back! Score
#4 , 00 are my go to for coyotes but my good buddy always raved about the Lead BB he had before he ran out.
