Alfoldivandor: I didn't realize there were so many flavours of Palinka. I've only had the plum based version. It definitely put hair on your chest!
marky.mark. This story is only the tip of the iceberg! Poor old Ivano has had some hilarious stuff happen to him over the years. The dude should probably contemplate giving up ice fishing. One of the better ones was when we had a hut out on Simcoe and we used to poop into a 5 gallon bucket instead of being a pig and leaving it on the ice. We had a corker of a day and we all managed to catch our two whitefish. These fish also went into the same black garbage bags. It was dark when we arrived back at the parking lot at Beaverton. I grabbed the bags and threw one into each guys truck as they were loading their skidoos. Three hours later I get a phone call and it's Ivano, yelling and swearing on the end of the phone. He called me every name in the book. Turns out I gave him our bag of poop by mistake. He had slit the bag and dumped it into the kitchen sink. His girlfriend almost puked when she saw the stack of brown logs and toilet paper, then she started crying. I wept on the other end of the phone, and if I remember correctly I had to pinch my parts with my thumb and forefinger or I would surely have pissed myself! Oh man.......them there were some good times!
The plum based palinka aged in small mulberry barrels brings good memories!
This was somewhere in Transylvania... the locals absolutely cherished this drink, and for all the good reasons. I really liked it, goes very well with the local aged sheep cheese and double-smoked pork fat.
In my culture, Grappa is similar. When made properly, it is good, but when people (like many of my relatives) start making it in their garages, that's when the stuff gets a bad reputation. One relative gave me litres of homemade grappa. It was just terrible. I use it to light the fireplace when the wood doesn't want to cooperate. I have also used it in a camping stove when I ran out of methanol.
Early in 2021 you should probably stay home, unless you can find something where you are isolated from others.
