22lr 25yds vs 300yds, no slouch.

There is really not a "solid" when you look at the 22LR. Every bullet except the new lead free green bullets are just copper washed lead with a different profile. The "solid" that you are referring to is actually just a soft lead bullet, still flattens out and mushrooms like crazy, unlike a solid from a centerfire. The only difference is that the hollow point fills with flesh and opens up much quicker, less penetration but more violent expansion. Dad bought a brick of 22 Long accidentally once, that 29gr bullet round nose bullet still killed groundhogs and raccoons but did not stop them like 22LR with a hollow point did. I use stingers for goats on the farm, even the big old ones, does not exit, which is perfect.

The 22 LR round is quite powerful to get the job done at distance for sure.
The problem is that not too many 22 LR gun platforms and ammo is made to be accurate enough & consistently at extended ranges. Even 50-75 yards is too much for some.
This being said: I do really love my old Canadian made Coeey Model 64 22 semi fed with CCI MiniMags.

My dad and myself did alot of experiments one day, when we were shooting about 30 yards (don't remember the range) but I remember changing ammo and shooting a 50cent piece pattern suddenly went to a folded dollar bill and an inch to the 2pm position. They both had comparable scopes and the Remington centred might move a bit or size change but the Ruger really changed! After that we bought a variety but I don't remember which were the best on the Ruger anymore but I remember we tried Aquila, Thunderbolts, Stingers, minimags and a few others that day and some had little change others huge shifts and spreads. There are also firearms that just don't shoot worth sh** too though.:scream:

we were shooting pop cans up in moose camp a few years back at 300 yards, you would be surprised how accurate they are. I believe we held over around 4-5 ft, but we were all able to hit the cans relatively easy and consitantly once we figured out the hold over.

The problem is the lack of energy. I often plug my propane tanks at 100 yds with the .22 and all it does is scrape the paint off. HaHa.
But they hit fairly accurately, goes thru paper, so fun for plinking...but wouldn't hunt with them at that distance.

Long range rimfire is become a niche shooting sport. I know Twin City Rifle club near KW used to hold 300 yard rimfire matches.

100 yard small game is not a problem, skin is also not as tough as a propane tank, at 100 yards the 40gr pill would still get in to the vitals of most game animals if shot broadside.

I have a Tikka T1X that is good and accurate at 100 yards. Would not shoot anything at that distance with it though. Fine for 50 yards.

It’s got nothing left in the tank at 100 and there are so many better choices. A 2000-2400 FPS cast CF is superior in every way and not any more expensive.

If you want some fun grab a box of CCI Quiets. 740 FPS and just nothing but fun to target shoot with.

I picked up a box of Remington CBee 720fps at a gun show for chit & giggles. Still have them, maybe this summer.

They only have 27 ft/lb at 50 yds..might make it thru stiff cardboard. HaHa.
