I can't disagree with your statement, but in his own opinion he felt strongly enough and knew what the repercussions would probably be even though he was at the top of his game. He was not forced by others as far as I know, and I respect him for this as there was no bigger stage to get his feelings across no matter the repercussions. This what peaceful protest is all about, every movement starts somewhere and the people at the forefront are usually the ones who pay the biggest price.

No they should be honest and say outright that they prefer a Canada from the 1950,s. Declare they do not like immigrants are intolerant.
