Yeah I'm planning to get the vaccine, pretty sure my wife plan covers it, but if not I will pay for it myself.
My Dad got shingles about 10 years ago and had permanent nerve damage in his hands that still hurts a bit today.
They say you can take it at 50 but supposedly it is only good for 5 years. Do I get it now or should I wait until I am a bit older even the Dr's don't really have an answer on that. I read the stats about it last nigh and they say 1 in 3 will get some form of shingles.
My dad got it.
The problem is that we used to get chicken pox as a kid, then when our kids got it we would get a booster, then when our grand kids got it we would get a booster, naturally. The fact that babies were getting it and having big problems they now vaccinate for chicken pox, which is a good thing, but we do not get boosters anymore from our kids and grand kids getting sick.
I do not know anyone who has had shingles but have heard many stories, ouch.
One thing I have read is that the vaccine isn't 100 % effective - so you can get the shot and still get sick - the one thing that you can do to prevent from getting shingles is to keep your immune system strong - by eating good and getting enough rest - with all these vaccines being given to people I wonder when a person is so loaded with the stuff they implode
I asked about it last time I was at the pharmacy, but they said that with all the covid issues they were not offering it right now. But next time I'm at the doctor or when the pharmacy gives it again its on my list. Know a few people that had it and its not something I ever want to suffer through
I got the shot when I was around 55 because I just ran thru a bout with chicken pox. Funny thing is, I had the pox earlier in life (mid 20's) but it came again, So with the virus active in my system) I was going to be more susceptible for shingles.Quote:

Last fall a neighbor down the street from us got the vaccine and 4 or 5 days later ended up with shingles. Now, this gal is loud even when she's sleeping. She kept the entire neighborhood advised of her condition but we all got a good laugh out of her ordeal.
My wife and I both got Shingrix shots 2 months ago. It’s a two part vaccination with the shots 2-4 months apart, good for 5 years. I had no reaction to the shot and my wife had mild flu type symptoms for 2 days after the second shot. We are early 60s and recommended by our family doctor. He said it’s not 100 percent, but if you did get shingles, it would be a very mild case.
