Sighting in variable scopes?

As gbk mentioned, a lower power scope isn't going to change things near as much as a higher power scope, as you said.
It can be quite noticeable on higher power scopes.

I got caught with the eye relief thing on one scope too. The rings would not allow the scope to go back any further and I figured it was good enough at 4x I would be fine. Cranked it up to 12x and had to lean in and was very uncomfortable to get a nice full scope picture. I hunted that year with a narrow field of view and promptly bought offset rings the next off season.
