I have a crab tree in the yard and the apples would come ripe at this time of year. What I did was pick them off the tree and those on the ground, put them in 5 gallon pails, toss in a bit of sugar and water then seal the pail. Come November the apples had fermented and turned to mush. The smell was so strong it made my eyes water while carrying it into the stand. I then dumped this slop on the ground by my bait pile and the ground was eventually torn up so bad by deer trying to get at the stuff that it was unrecognizable.
