The others are correct, ironwood or hop Hornbeam, the seed pods look similar to hops and thus the name.
The mushrooms look like northern tooth fungus, definitely a do NOT eat!

Yea just don't put too much in the wood stove at once or you'll cherry the pipes. All the ironwood around here is straight for the most part and the bark isn't quite the same as in that pic above with all the branches. That looks closer to shagbark hickory. 10" is a big one. During the ice storm of '98 a lot of them got bent over pretty good and it took them a while after to straighten out. Strangely enough about 3-4 years later a lot of them died, from the stress I assume. I've seen those type seeds before on the ground beneath ironwood but not very often. If I think of it tomorrow I'll grab some pics from beside the house in the bush.
